EDGAR ALLAN POE
Born in Boston, U.S.A., 19th January 1809. Brought up as an adopted child; educated in England and Virginia. Abandoned a business career; was dismissed for neglect of duty from West Point Academy (1831), and thereafter supported himself by writing. Most of his life was spent in poverty, and he died on 8th October 1849 in Baltimore.
